Slipvents are compact ejection systems designed for safely expelling items into space from a pressurized environment. Unlike standard airlocks, which are typically used for personnel transfer or docking procedures, slipvents specialize in the controlled discharge of smaller payloads—such as cargo containers, waste capsules, emergency supply pods, and, in rare cases, classified materials.
Their design incorporates variable-pressure shielding and a vacuum-sealed gate system that allows contents to be launched without destabilizing internal air pressure. Most slipvents are secured via biometric or neural-key access, particularly on Sovereign-class ships or stations where slipvent misuse could lead to catastrophic breaches.
In fringe colonies or outlaw-run ports like Redrift Station, slipvents are often jury-rigged or black-market modified. Some criminals have been known to use them for silent dumping—ejecting evidence, bodies, or unwanted cargo directly into open space where Galactic Civil Authority (GCA) sensors can’t trace them.
