A bloomcore is a specialized crystalline orb designed to house and deploy starblossoms, the radiant photonic bursts used in ceremonial and commemorative space rituals. Each bloomcore contains a precisely engineered matrix of plasma channels, refractive dust, and ionized gas—held in delicate stasis until release.
Bloomcores are typically spherical, ranging in size from a marble to a human palm. The outer shell is forged from tempered shimmersteel. Internally, the core is layered with lightweave coils and emotionally reactive dustlines, allowing custom calibration of color, bloom pattern, and intensity.
Activation Process:
To prepare a bloomcore for use, it must be:
- Charged in a solar cradle for no less than one orbital cycle
- Tuned using a resonance key or voiceprint tied to the intended emotion or memory
- Launched into low- or zero-gravity space to ensure full bloom expansion
Upon activation, the core fractures along micro-fissures in its surface, releasing the stored energy in a radiant, petal-like dispersion across the starscape.
In Aekosi tradition, bloomcores are considered sacred objects. The crafting of one is often a familial or communal effort, with each participant embedding a memory or prayer into the charge. Destroying a bloomcore before its bloom is considered a grave dishonor.
In Sylkaran society, bloomcores are treated as artisan objects—etched with filigree and traded among nobles as symbols of goodwill or political intent.
Variants:
- Twincore: A paired set of bloomcores calibrated to bloom in harmony, often used in bonding ceremonies
- Shadowcore: An illegal or hacked variant that releases blacklight blooms for covert signaling
- Memorycore: An enhanced version containing a recorded message, often deployed posthumously
